Special projects: a MARSE temperature control unit instead of a 700-litre boiler

Contents

Not every process fits into a catalogue. At MARSE we also develop special projects for applications that need precise temperature control and where a standard solution is not enough. We study the process, choose the technology and adapt the equipment and installation to what the customer needs. One example: a temperature control unit for a heat exchanger that replaces a 700-litre boiler.

A real case: a temperature control unit for a heat exchanger instead of a 700-litre boiler

In this installation, the heat exchanger of a filter system was heated by a 700-litre boiler. MARSE proposed replacing it with a temperature control unit that heats the exchanger circuit directly and maintains the temperature the process requires.

The benefits of the switch

  • Greater efficiency: instead of keeping a large volume of water hot, the temperature control unit heats only the fluid circulating through the heat exchanger, with lower energy losses.
  • Process control: PID heating and cooling control that holds the setpoint steadily, instead of working against the inertia of a large tank.
  • Faster response: with less volume in the circuit, the system reaches temperature sooner and responds faster to every setpoint change.
  • Controlled ramps: heating and cooling follow the programmed ramp, with no sudden changes for the installation.
  • Data and alarms: real-time graphs of temperature, pressure and flow rate, alarms and connectivity with the plant, so you know exactly what is happening at all times.
  • Less space: a compact unit on castors takes up far less room than a boiler and its tank.

How we approach special projects

  1. We analyse the process: working temperature, flow rate, fluid, required power and installation conditions.
  2. We choose the technology: water with an open tank up to 90 °C, pressurised water up to 180 °C or oil in a closed circuit up to 300 °C.
  3. We adapt the unit and the installation to the specific application.
  4. We commission it and support you with our technical service.

FAQs

Can a boiler be replaced with a temperature control unit?

In applications such as heating the heat exchanger of a filter system, yes: the temperature control unit heats the circuit fluid directly and holds the temperature the process requires. In this case it replaced a 700-litre boiler.

What are the advantages of a temperature control unit over a boiler?

Greater efficiency, because it heats only the circulating fluid; stable PID control; faster response; controlled ramps; data and alarms; and a much smaller footprint.

What is a special temperature control project?

An application where the standard solution is not enough. We analyse the process, choose the technology, adapt the equipment and installation, and commission it with our technical service team.

What temperature ranges do MARSE temperature control units cover?

Water with an open tank up to 90 °C, pressurised water up to 180 °C and oil in a closed circuit up to 300 °C.
